McDonald’s has submitted plans to the Northern Beaches Council for a new drive-thru outlet at the corner of Roseberry Street and Kenneth Road, situated on the border of Balgowlah and Manly Vale.
Existing on the site is Seven Miles Coffee Roasters plant head office. This building will be demolished to make way for a 381 sqm freestanding, single-storey McDonald’s restaurant with a dual-lane drive-thru capable of accommodating up to 15 queuing vehicles. The site is a key location positioned near a high-traffic area that includes major retail outlets like Woolworths, Aldi, Bunnings, Harvey Norman and Bing Lee, along with a nearby KFC and B-line commuter carpark.
Key development features include:
McDonald’s faces significant local presence in the Northern Beaches region, with multiple outlets already operating in areas like Beacon Hill, Brookvale, Frenchs Forest and Warriewood. However, the proposed location is seen as a key strategic point for the fast-food chain, offering a prominent spot near retail hubs and public transport.
Local residents have raised concerns about the additional traffic congestion the new outlet may cause. The surrounding roads, particularly Roseberry Street, are already prone to delays on weekends and this has led to the circulation of a community petition that has already garnered over 1,000 signatures.
In Australia, there are about 1,030 McDonald’s stores. McDonald’s Australia serves about 1.2 million people a day and provides job opportunities for over 115,000 people.
