Belmore Back in Play: $50M Bulldogs Centre of Excellence Gets the Green Light

#1 Place for Development in Sydney

A major win is on the board for the rugby league community of southwest Sydney, with planning approval granted for a $50M centre of excellence at Belmore Oval Sports Complex.

The project, led by the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, is set to transform the club’s historic home into a state-of-the-art community and high-performance hub, reinforcing Belmore’s long-standing identify as the spiritual heart of the Bulldogs.

Located on Edison Lane, the project has been celebrated by community groups and local leaders alike, not only as a major investment in rugby league, but as a broader community asset that fosters participation across all levels of the sport.

The development also delivers on the Bulldog’s long-term vision to re-anchor their operations in Belmore, decades after the club shifted its home games to venues like Accor Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park.

The centre of excellence will take shape as a three-storey facility, boasting a range of elite and community-focussed infrastructure. The ground floor will welcome fans and visitors with a retail foyer and merchandise store, alongside changerooms and amenities for community clubs using the adjacent Peter Moore Fields.

The upper levels will house a comprehensive suite of high-performance training facilities for the Bulldogs’ NRL and NRLW teams, including strength and conditioning zones, aquatic recovery pools, treatment rooms and dedicated education & meeting rooms. The project will also deliver media facilities, upgraded scoreboard infrastructure and modern offices to support the club’s operations.

The development is made possible through the Bulldogs’ existing lease over 3B Edison Lane and 1C Leylands Parade, which commenced in 2014 and runs through to 2035. A new long-term lease agreement has reportedly been reached between the Bulldogs and Canterbury-Bankstown Council, ensuring the club’s sustained presence in Belmore for years to come.
