Fairfield Showground: 3,000 Seat Community & Events Masterplan

#1 Place for Development in Sydney

Fairfield Council has lodged a major proposal for a new multi-purpose community and events centre at its Fairfield Showground site on Smithfield Road in Prairiewood – a 30.1-hectare precinct.

The proposed building is predominantly single storey with the auditorium hall element reaching 12 metres to parapet. It will accommodate up to 3,000 people in a combination of 1,000 retractable tiered seats and 2,000 flat floor seats, plus two indoor sports courts configured for basketball, futsal and volleyball.

The facility is also designed for banquet events up to 880 people, conferences, citizenship ceremonies, weddings, trade shows and cultural performances and events.

The site carries no height of building control under the Fairfield LEP, which gives the design considerable latitude.

The new building is sited over an existing carpark, west of the showground’s market awning, and is Stage 2 of a broader 20-year masterplan for the showground precinct.

The broader catchment for the facility includes one of Greater Western Sydney’s most culturally diverse communities. The facility is positioned to serve events that are not currently well-served in Fairfield or surrounding LGAs.
