A former waste facility that has served Sydney’s southwest for over four decades is now set to become one of the largest infill industrial rezoning plays in recent memory.
Located at 2 Cambridge Avenue in Glenfield, the 91.55-hectare site spans two local government areas – Liverpool in the north and Campbelltown in the south.
The supersite has historically functioned as the Glenfield Waste Facility, with approvals stretching back to 1979 for waste depot use. It currently receives and processes construction and demolition waste, sending recyclables offsite and landfilling residual materials.
The proposed transformation includes:
Warehouses are expected to range from 8,700 sqm to 39,700 sqm each. The future extension of Cambridge Avenue will be a key enabler for site access, creating freight links to the M5 Motorway via Moorebank Avenue.
To deliver the project, rezonings have been submitted to both Campbelltown and Liverpool councils, seeking to rezone parts of the land zoned RU2 Rural Landscape and RE1 Public Recreation to E4 General Industrial. The proposal also requests to increase the site’s height from 8.5 – 19 metres to a uniform 30 metres, aligning with modern warehouse and logistics requirements.
Both councils have accepted the planning proposals. Momentum is already building, with major DAs now lodged for the first stage of the estate – featuring two 40,000 sqm warehouse and distribution centres.
