A major aged care development for Sydney’s Upper North Shore has received the green light, with the NSW planning department approving Opal HealthCare’s proposal for a new 145-bed residential care facility in St Ives.
The project will consolidate five existing lots at 285, 287, 287A, 289 Mona Vale Road and 1 Flinders Avenue into a single 9,324 sqm site, located just north of St Ives town centre. The land currently accommodates five detached dwellings.
The design incorporates 145 residential aged care beds with ancillary services including a café, salon, gym and health consulting rooms. Additionally, a state-of-the-art wellness centre and custom-designed memory care neighbourhood will be delivered.
Strategically, the St Ives development responds to growing demand for aged care in Sydney’s north. Ku-ring-gai’s population has a higher-than-average proportion of residents aged over 70, and demand for purpose-built residential care – particularly with integrated health and wellbeing services – is expected to rise sharply in the coming decade.
Opal HealthCare, operating as Principal Healthcare Finance Pty Ltd, is one of Australia’s largest aged care providers, managing more than 9,000 residents across 131 communities nationwide. The company’s operating model emphasises not only clinical care but also social and recreational programs, community engagement and resident wellbeing.
