A new master plan for The Oaks Airport in Wollondilly has been unveiled, setting the stage for one of Greater Sydney’s most unique aviation, tourism and commercial developments.
The DA seeks approval to redevelop the heritage-listed airfield into a multiuse aviation and leisure hub that could reshape the Wollondilly economy and put The Oaks on the map as a destination.
The Oaks airfield was originally constructed in 1942 by the Royal Australian Air Force as a satellite base to Camden Airport. Designed as a dispersal site during World War II, it is the only airport of its kind from the era still operational today.
Currently used for recreational flying, aircraft storage, maintenance and training – including operations by Dave’s Flying School and the Sydney Recreational Flying Club – the site has long been underutilised relative to its scale and potential.
The 45-hectare property, spanning 995 Burragorang Road and 5 – 15 Lugarno Place, now forms the basis of a bold redevelopment vision: to create a multiuse aviation, leisure and commercial hub to support Sydney’s aviation sector whilst generating local economic growth and employment opportunities for The Oaks commununity.
