🏨 A tropical aquarium, a Novotel rooftop pool, and a Milan-inspired café – in Cabramatta?

#1 Place for Development in Sydney

In the heart of southwest Sydney, a century-old institution is undergoing a transformation unlike anything the RSL sector has seen before.

The Cabra-Vale Diggers – now rebranded as Cabravale Club Resort – is putting the final touches on a $230M redevelopment that pivots away from pokies and pint glasses, and towards five-star hospitality, food and wellness.

Marking its 100th year, the club’s transformation feels more like a hospitality-led urban resort than a traditional community club. The centrepiece? An 8-storey Novotel hotel set to open its doors on November 12, complete with a rooftop infinity pool, poolside mini cabanas, a gym and views stretching from Parramatta to the Sydney CBD.

A walk through one of the king rooms reveals the new standard being set – rainforest showers, standalone bathrooms, double vanities and koi-themed art pieces decorating walls in true boutique style. The rooms are managed by Signature Hotel Management Group, which will also oversee the adjoining culinary and retail elements delivered in Stage 1.

From a 450-machine gaming room and 24-hour convenience store to a high-end steakhouse and copper-detailed café inspired by Milan’s Starbucks Reserve Roastery – the scale and ambition of this development is matched only by its diversity. And that’s just Stage 1.

By 2026, the club’s hospitality offering will expand again with the arrival of a Mediterranean all-day restaurant and family-friendly 300-seat Italian venue led by Dany Karam – who is also behind the club’s signature steakhouse. Think open kitchens, wood-fired cooking, a whisky bar, a private dining space and an 1,800-bottle wine cellar.

Stage 3 will deliver a convention centre for 800 people, along with a reimagined gaming floor that is expected to house more food tenancies, rather than expand gambling. The club is walking the line between legacy and evolution – a bold move in a community where 80,000 members have relied on the Diggers for generations.

Still, the new gaming room is no afterthought. At 1,500 sqm with 450 terminals, it will remain one of the largest in the region – but surrounded by offerings that invite longer, more meaningful visits.
