Late Nights, Clear Rules: Fairfield Council Officially Unlocks Two Entertainment Precincts

By Charbel Abousleiman

#1 Place for Development in Sydney

Fairfield Council has officially secured approval to reshape Sydney’s southwest nightlife – with two new special entertainment precincts now established in Canley Heights and Canley Vale following the NSW planning department’s sign-off and gazettal on 31 October 2025.

The landmark move positions Fairfield alongside the Inner West as one of only two local governments in NSW to formally adopt the model – a step set to unlock 4am trading, support live music and stabilise compliance frameworks across two of the city’s most culturally dynamic dining strips.

🏙️PROJECT SNAPSHOT

Precincts  Canley Heights & Canley Vale
Location  Canley Vale Road, between Ascot Street and Clifford Avenue
Trading Hours  Up to 4:00am
Approval Date  31 October 2025
Policy Basis  Fairfield Economic Development Strategy 2024

🏗️ THE PROPOSAL

The now-approved amendments to the Fairfield LEP formally designate two distinct special entertainment precincts along Canley Vale Road:

Canley Heights: From Ascot Street to the Cumberland Highway (203 – 239 north side / 204 – 278 south side).

Canley Vale: From Railway Parade to Clifford Avenue (112-53 north side / 2 – 48 south side).

Within these boundaries, hospitality operators can now trade until 4am. The initiative supports the vibrant multicultural fabric of both centres – where small restaurants, late-night cafes and family-run venues create some of Sydney’s most authentic street-level experiences.

The Enmore Road pilot in the Inner West, formally recognised in 2023, served as the policy precedent – and Fairfield’s rollout now becomes the first major suburban application of that framework in NSW.
