A development application has been approved for a major upgrade to the Our Lady of Lebanon Co-Cathedral precinct, centred on community infrastructure, forecourt works and new parking.
The scheme introduces 200 additional parking spaces, including underground parking, alongside a redesigned forecourt intended to function as a central gathering space for parish events and services.
The project extends beyond access improvements. Plans include a new chapel, ANZAC memorial, Maronite Heritage Centre and a bell tower, positioning the cathedral as a broader cultural and commemorative precinct, rather than a standalone place of worship.
Works also extend into the Cathedral itself, with internal reconfiguration including relocation of the sacristy, upgrades to the sanctuary and altar, and installation of air-conditioning and a new sound system. A dedicated parental space is also proposed.
The scale of parking provision and expansion of public-facing events signals a shift toward accommodating larger congregations and more frequent community use.
